What is the Y2K Bug?

Y2K stands for Year 2000. Technically speaking the "bug" is based on a computer programming system that only used 2 digits instead of 4 digits to designate the year. So, on January 1, 2000 some older computers will equate 00 as the year 1900.

What the Y2K Bug will NOT do!

Airplanes will fall from the sky! ....................... NOT!

Electrical, Natural Gas, & Water Systems will fail! ....... NOT!

Financial Institutions will swallow up your money! ..... NOT!

A little common sense goes a long way when it comes to the Y2K Bug. To the best of our knowledge, electricity, gas, water, & airplanes can not tell the time or the date. Electricity, gas & water were flowing, & airplanes were flying long before computers. Financial institutions and governments are not going to allow society to be destroyed because of a date problem. Some minor problems may arise, but they will not be fatal.

Who should be concerned with the Y2K Bug?

Any organization or individual that uses date sensitive computer systems or devices.

Why be concerned with the Y2K Bug?

Society is financially oriented today and tracking money is important for a multitude of reasons. Accounts receivable, accounts payable, interest calculations, taxable income, business profits, etc. etc. are all affected by date so if you are using a computer system that is not Y2K compliant you should be concerned.

When should the Y2K Bug be addressed?
